Bulk Wood Chips from the Mill
At Platypus Timbers, we produce wood chips as a natural by-product of the timber we mill on site, then supply it in bulk to landscapers, home gardeners, rural customers and property owners across Mackay and the surrounding region. We see it used for garden mulch, path surfacing, animal bedding and yard applications. Because it comes straight from the sawmill, we can typically supply in the volumes you need without a long wait. Timber supplies, hardwood timber and flooring timber are also part of what we mill on site, if your project needs a broader mix. Call (07) 4954 0144 for wood chips in Mackay.

Wood Chips Uses
A quick guide to how our customers put wood chip to work around the home, farm and garden:
- Garden Mulch: A natural mulch layer that helps retain soil moisture and suppress weeds between plantings.
- Path & Yard Surfacing: Cost-effective ground cover for informal paths, dog runs and yard areas.
- Animal Bedding: Comfortable, absorbent bedding material for stables, kennels and rural sheds.
- Erosion & Ground Cover: Handy for stabilising bare ground and controlling dust during landscaping work.
Frequently Asked Questions
A layer of around 50 to 75mm gives enough coverage to suppress weeds and hold moisture without smothering plant roots. Thicker layers can cause water to run off rather than soak in, and can pack down and go anaerobic underneath.
